One more year, on the occasion of the celebration of Saint George’s Day, and of International Book Day, the Canigó School has organized the 2024 Cultural and Literary Days. And the students of the Canigó school have dedicated the month of April to different cultural, artistic, literary, musical activities.
Canigó School celebrates St. George's Day 2024
The Preschool students carried out an abundance of activities centered around the Olympic Games in this cultural week. They had the opportunity to organize the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and the lighting of the Olympic flame; In addition, they practiced different Olympic sports and learned to make rings through various crafts and games.
The Primary students represented several plays in different languages: Catalan, Spanish and English. “The little red riding hood” in 1st grade; “Three billy goats” in 2nd grade; “La mansión fantasma” in 3rd grade; “Què no dorm la princesa bella?” in 4th grade; and “Alicia en el país de las maravillas” in 5th grade.
Coinciding with this cultural week was also the celebration of the final of the Canigó speech contest “Think, write it and say it”.
Sant Jordi, a date marked to promote reading and oral expression
The students of ESO and Baccalaureate have represented a few plays, such as “La dama boba” by Lope de Vega; “Don Álvaro o la fuerza del sino” by the Duke of Rivas; and “La zapatera prodigiosa” by Federico García Lorca.
Among the activities organized by the school’s languages and arts departments, a dramatized reading of the “The cafe of Marina” was carried out by Josep María de Segarra and the students were able to attend various conferences and talks with authors such as Juan Pablo García-Borrón, Montse Almirall, or Francesc Miralles. They also participated in activities directly related to journalism, such as preparing and laying out a newspaper.
In addition, some students from the Music Program, which is linked to the Conservatory of Music Lyceum in Barcelona, performed different musical pieces with violins and piano.
The philanthropic activities were directed mainly to raise funds for the 2nd year Baccalaureate students’ volunteer work in Costa Rica. The charity breakfast or the sale of roses on Sant Jordi day were some of these activities.
Reading and Speaking for children at all stages in the Canigó school
In Canigó school, from the first stages, reading skills are developed through innovation projects such as We read and understand. This project consists of an innovative method to learn to read and write which adapts to the cognitive development of girls and boys, and respects their learning pace.
Furthermore, the students of Canigó school develop communication skills and begin public speaking in projects such as The Oratory Game, which aims for students to improve oral expression, recreating everyday situations within the classroom. They are introduced to the art of oratory through games.
