Primary

Primary Education is a stage aimed in the full development of each student in all aspects and to build the foundations so that they are adequately prepared to enter their high school years. Just as in all the stages of a child’s education, a personalized education, educational excellence, parents’ collaboration and a Christian identity are all defining characteristics of Canigo.

In Primary we specifically develop programs which are being continuously updated, below a few are highlighted.   

ENGLISH PROJECT

In Canigó, English makes up 30% of Primary Education. Starting at age 6, the focus on English communicative skills is promoted. Additionally, a native speaker maintains weekly conversations with the students in significantly reduced groups.

The mastery of our students English is further guaranteed through the Cambridge English Exams. 80% of our students, upon finishing Primary, obtain a B1 level and 40% graduate with a C1 level.

Study abroad programs. Beginning in Primary 5 students have the opportunity to study abroad in different single-sex schools in the United States, Canada or Ireland.

OTROS IDIOMAS: FRANCÉS

El proyecto educativo de Canigó en francés comienza en el segundo ciclo de Primaria. Fomenta con una dedicación de tres horas semanales el enfoque comunicativo y el trabajo armónico de las distintas funciones lingüísticas: lectura y escritura, comprensión y ex­presión oral, gramática... Las alumnas dedican en esta etapa educativa 450 horas al apren­dizaje de esta lengua.

MATHS PROGRAM

The EntusiasMat Maths Program is an enjoyable way to aid in the development of logic and mathematical reasoning. In collaboration with experts from around the world, the e-box has been developed, a program which includes materials whose primary objective is in facilitating the first phases in the learning of equations. Equally, Fomento has specific programs and materials to work different strategies for mental calculation and problem solving.

COOPERATIVE LEARNING

Cooperative learning is a way of structuring the activity in the classroom in reduced working groups, in which students help each other to learn. It has a dual objective, students learn the school content better and more efficiently as well as learning to work as a team in a cooperative way.

READING AS A MEANS OF LEARNING

Primary education is an important phase in the development of the linguistic skills. Many of these skills are worked on through reading: reaching a good reading comprehension level facilitates one’s ability in the other subject areas.

Through sufficient motivation, students access a variety of texts adapted to different ages and interests which includes classical children’s authors as well as contemporary ones

SCIENCE PROJECT

Science program is a specific Fomento program that has as its objective to promote creativity, experimentation and cooperative learning in the natural science field.

In primary, students study this subject area in English, through research projects and science experiments in the laboratory, among other activities, that form part of daily life.

In this way, students familiarize themselves with different research techniques and develop their communication skills and abilities to be able to present and transmit their results and findings.

SMART BOARDS

In Canigó all of the classrooms are equipped with smart boards. The smart boards are a versatile tool which allows for the development of interactive activities on the part of the teacher and student, show language via multimedia, access the internet, and other online communication possibilities.

EDUCATION IN VALUES: VAMOS CRECIENDO

The objective of the program "Vamos Creciendo" is to educate in values as a sum of the collaboration between the families and the school. Family is the most appropriate environment for the development and acquisition of these values. The school helps in furthering what the parents teach at home.

In Primary, the goal of this program is to encourage respect for oneself (self-confidence) respect for others, (friendship, companionship, solidarity, loyalty, sincerity), respect for one´s surroundings (nature and the natural environment), responsible use of one’s liberty, educating in character (work habits, order and constancy) and positive reinforcement through motivation and the eagerness to improve.
