A more sustainable ONLINE was the title of the project developed by the students of the Solstitium team of Canigo in the First Lego League competition this year, under the motto SUPER POWERED. The team reached the final phase, held in Cartagena, and brought back an unforgettable experience, which they explained to us emphatically.

On March 25, a group of students from Canigo participated with our team, Solstitium, in the National Final of the First Lego League in Cartagena (Murcia) What an amazing experience!

Agnés, Ana, Clara, Claudia, Elia, Gema, Irene, María and Marita, all 3rd and 4th of ESO students in Canigo, tell us first-hand about their experience in the First Lego League 2023 final, held this year at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

How was your arrival at the venue of the FLL final?

The day started very early and we were among the first to present our innovation project. Each team had a stand at their disposal, which we decorated to present our project to the rest of the teams and the audience. There, anyone who wanted to could find out about our team and the project we were presenting.

A more sustainable ONLINE. What was your project about?

This year, under the title“Super Powered”, the FLL challenge invited us to research how energy is produced, distributed, stored and used. The goal was to carry out and develop a project where innovation would reveal a better future for energy

In our case, our project aimed to secure “a more sustainable online” designing a carbon neutral data center, supplied by renewable energy, mainly biogas, at kilometer zero.

We had very positive feedback from the judges. They were very happy with our work, and commended us on  the attractive presentation and feasibility of the project, as well as our initiative to consult with various professionals in the field to improve our idea. They noted the presence of Values First among us, especially cohesion and teamwork.

The next part of the final was the robot game. Three rounds were played, of which only the one with the highest score counted. We had high expectations because of all the hard work we had put in over the last few months. We enjoyed each of the games and we learned from our mistakes and had the opportunity to correct them in the training PIT. It was a very intense day, full of eustress and excitement.

What did you like the most about the experience of participating in a tournament like this?

What we want to highlight above all is the environment. In total there were almost 40 teams, and everyone -the teams, the organization staff, its volunteers, the judges and referees- were very friendly, helpful and communicative.

We had a great time and we would certainly love to repeat this day, since we learned a lot in all aspects. We were impressed by the high level of other teams’ projects. We were able to learn from each other and above all, we gained new friendships.

See you in the next challenge!
