Fomento celebrates the Víctor García Hoz awards ceremony in its 10th edition

More than 12 projects carried out by teachers from Fomento schools have been awarded in the 10th edition of the Víctor García Hoz Awards for educational innovation.

More than 12 projects carried out by teachers from Fomento schools have been awarded in the 10th edition of the Víctor García Hoz Awards for educational innovation. The award-winning professors received their awards at an event held yesterday in the assembly hall of the Villanueva University headquarters, in Madrid.

The Víctor García Hoz awards for educational innovation are held in Fomento in order to promote educational research and the exchange of experiences. These awards recognize quality, innovation and  attitude to creatively face the challenges of society by the protagonists of educational action: teachers.

First awards for educational innovation

Teachers María Alejandra Ponte Castro, Ana Isabel Antonio Pérez and Manoja Kusalani Dharmahewa, from the Las Acacias school in Vigo, were awarded a first prize for their project “Taller Eco” developed in the Infant stage.

This project seeks to bring children closer to activities related to rural areas, the environment, recycling and the acquisition of healthy habits from an early age.

Professor Miguel Ángel López Sevillano was also awarded for the “Technological Challenges” project, developed in the Primary stage of the Aldovea school in Madrid.

Their project proposes the use of programming and robotics competitions as a learning vehicle for the development of STEM skills and key competencies. They allow the development of creativity, problem solving and teamwork.

Also, the project of the teacher at the Miravalles-El Redín school in Pamplona, ​​María Ángeles Sánchez Ostiz, called “Learn With…” developed in Primary.

It aims to teach the subject of Spanish Language from Literature; using the works of the chosen authors as models.

In the Primary stage, the project developed at the Canigó school in Barcelona by teacher María José Dionis Raurell: “The power of the word” stood out with a first prize. This public speaking project for 6th Primary ends with a contest in which all the students participate.

Already in the ESO stage, the “Starship Crew” project was awarded, implemented by María Medina Medina, from the Aldeafuente school in Madrid. It uses didactic innovation for learning Geology, with a playful and practical approach that allows you to see the usefulness and applicability of the geological knowledge acquired.

Among the first prizes is also the project by Sara de Castro Blasco, from the Montealto school in Madrid, called “Debate and Philosophy” in Baccalaureate.

Introduces debate as an educational tool in the Philosophy class to practically work on reasoning, understanding, expression and critical thinking; as well as the contents of this subject.

Second prizes in the the Víctor García Hoz awards

Various projects carried out at different stages received second prizes, such as the project developed at the Aitana school in Alicante, “Spatial Reading”. Teachers Laura López Pérez and Jesús Alonso Burgos carry it out in the Primary stage.

This project to promote reading has space as its motivating axis. The students will be protagonists in the form of astronauts who use spaceships, propelled by the force of reading.

The teacher at the Miravalles-El Redín school in Pamplona, ​​María José Marqués Malumbres, stood out with a second prize for her project “Matemátias Interactivas”. This project, developed in Primary, uses certain technological tools to enhance the learning of mathematics.

The initiative “Beyond Chemistry”, developed at ESO by the teacher from the Aldeafuente school in Madrid, Mercedes de Miguel Santaolalla, was also awarded. This work proposes a way to teach the periodic table and some properties of the elements, following the line of experimental learning.

A teacher from the Pinoalbar school in Valladolid, Macarena Millán Adaro, stood out with her project “Geography Studies” in the Secondary stage. This geography learning project focused on sustainable development combines Project-Based Learning methodologies and Content and Foreign Language Integrated Learning.

The teacher from the Los Robles de Asturias school, Javier Martínez Sellers, was also awarded for the project “Great Books, Great Readers”, in ESO and BAC. It encourages reading and, in addition, it helps students delve deeper into some of the big questions that arise at those ages such as: Who am I? What is the meaning of my life? How can I contribute to society?

The “Competential Mathematics” project, developed by the teacher at the Aitana school in Alicante, Manuel Bonet Alcázar, was also the winner.

This initiative takes advantage of the potential of the new educational law to bring this subject closer to the daily lives of students; through a set of mathematics learning situations in high school.

The Víctor García Hoz awards celebrate their tenth edition. They receive this name in recognition of Víctor García Hoz: one of the most important figures of pedagogy in Spain of our time; also the creator of the personalized education model and promoter of the Development schools.

Congratulations to all the winners in this 10th edition of the Víctor García Hoz awards for educational innovation, as well as to all the projects presented. All these initiatives reflect the involvement and commitment of teachers; and contributor to the improvement of education and society.
