On January 31, at the Fomento Canigó school, we celebrated STEAM Day, a day dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
STEAM activity program, adapted to each educational stage
From the smallest of Preschool students to the students of 2nd year of Baccalaureate participated in different workshops, games, lectures, exhibitions, experiments and scientific tests.
In Preschool our students became little scientists and they discovered the different reactions that occur with the combination of substances such as water, foam, dyes or flour, through hands-on experimentation and manipulation of materials. In the classroom they created colored rains, magic flour, tunnels of light… Starting with basic knowledge, the children formulated hypotheses and enjoyed actively learning while carrying out their experiments.
The day in Primary was exciting and fun. The students participated in math based games and carried out various experiments, putting into practice the knowledge acquired in Science. Some of the curricular materials included in this fun filled day were Electricity, the changes of state of matter, galaxies, and chemical reactions.
In Secondary and Baccalaureate, the students did math and science activities. They also organized and directed the math and scientific activities for the Primary school students. Additionally, some were able to attend the conference on “Ecodesign and sustainable development” and others were able to visit the Cosmocaixa with an invigorating challenge to complete in teams.
All students were able to enjoy a fun and enriching day, which brought them closer to the world of science and in which the younger academics had the opportunity to learn from the older ones.
Innovation in the Canigó school
The STEAM goal in Canigó trilingual school in Barcelona is to give a hands-on approach to science, helping our students to develop their abilities, so that in the future, they can contribute to the progress of our society.
The innovative project STEAM works with all stages, from Kindergarten to 2nd year of Baccalaureate, with projects such as Fun Mathematics, the Scientific Workshop, Programming Workshop, Creativity Workshop, Chess Project, Scratch, Robotics, Fomento Science Project, and Physics and Chemistry Projects.
These projects promote transversal knowledge of the STEAM areas. In addition, it encourages students to discover their talents in science and research.
